RSGB Contest Results First 50MHz Contest 2017

1ST 50MHz CONTEST 2017

The 1st 50MHz contest attracted 61 entries (16 in section O and 45 in section SF), 15% up on 2016. This increase may in part have been due to the weather, which many entrants commented on as being good for once! The number of check logs was up too - from three to eight -in part as a result of the need to reclassify a number of logs due to the operators not being RSGB members.

Opinions on activity varied from 'poor' to 'reasonable' (probably depending on entrants' location). However views on conditions showed more agreement, from 'poor' to 'flat' and 'average', with repeated comments of a noisy band with a lot of QSB. Nevertheless eight stations had best DX of over 600km (the best being between GM4VVX and PA5Y at 965km), and a total of 20 UK&CD squares and 6 non UK&CD ones (involving 11 stations in EI, F, ON & PA) were contacted by UK&CD entrants.

Congratulations to the Secret Nuclear Bunker CG M0SNB and David Butler G4ASR, leading stations in the Open and Single Fixed sections respectively.
